BUILDING OUR DREAM HOME: The process so far

Hey readers!

I'm very excited to share this post with you all because I wanted to update you guys on our house!

Over the past few months, a lot has been happening and our house will be ready within the next 10 weeks.

I know, crazy isn't it?

It's all been happening very suddenly! My husband's uncle; who lives not too far has been updating us with photos. So, I thought I'd share with you guys the process so far...

As ever, you might want to grab a cup of tea and a snack.

For those who may not have read my blog post from when we bought the house, here are some FYI's before you read on.

In May 2020, we bought our very first home. It's a brand new home which is currently being built.

It's 1608 square feet. 2.5 bathrooms (ensuite in the master bedroom) 3 bedrooms (all with walk-in closets << YES!) 2 car garage basement With a porch that goes around the front of the house (my dream) Our home looks like a doll's house, I'm not going to lie; I'm very excited. Anyway, without further ado...

BUILDING OUR DREAM HOME: THE PROCESS SO FAR

9th January 2021

In early January they started digging out the basement.

23rd January 2021

By mid to late January they started to build the walls of the basement

1st February 2021

Then by early February, they had finished building the basement.

6th February 2021

This is when they started to build our 2 car garage.

We then had to wait for the framing to be delivered.

7th March 2021 - now for the fun bit...

They began putting the framing up in early March and from this point on, it's all been going up very fast!

11th March 2021

Yes, a few days after first starting the frame, the first floor (aka ground floor) was already up. This is the day we went to see the house for the first time. It was very exciting because many houses in our neighbourhood were almost complete.

On that same day, they also began putting up the second floor. This is the back of our house.

12th March 2021

By the next day, the second floor of our house was already up! I can't believe how fast houses are built here in the US, I guess it's because they are made of mostly wood (well, duh).

Here is the back of the house, featuring our garage.

24th March 2021

We had a HUGE blizzard on 14th March with up to 4ft of snow. So, we had to wait for the ice and snow to melt. However, once they were able to, the roof went on and as you can see from this photo...our lovely porch is starting to form (the highlight of my American home, for me).

26th March 2021

Continuing with roof and porch. You can see they have started to put panels up.

28th March 2021

This is our house currently (as of this post's date) They have begun to put up the paneling. This is not the final colour of our home, they will paint the house within the next few weeks. After the outside panels are in place, I think they will begin putting in the windows. Oh and look at that, we have a garage door!

This is the future view from our bedroom window. By the time we move in, there should be houses being built in front of us. Inside the house, they have started putting in the pipes and vents for our AC and heating.

So, as you can see! The house is going up very quickly! We will be having our first walkthrough within a couple of weeks, which I'm super excited about.

We are pretty much all set to move in, with most of our furniture ready.

Once we know our closing date, we will have a better idea of when we move however, it's looking to be late May to early June 2021.

Finally!

Of course, once we move in I will make a "house tour" video haha!

As ever, thank you for reading.

- Kerry xoxo
